Get Your Data Right Before It Gets You
Have you ever used a dataset and found out later that it meant something else? A date that wasn’t the date you thought. A code nobody could explain. A field that turned out to contain personal data.
People travel with a passport. Data usually travels with nothing. That’s fine until the data is shared, migrated or fed to AI, and suddenly everyone is guessing.
For the first edition of THT Startup Talks, we're welcoming Ronald Baan, data management expert and fellow The Hague Tech community member, for a practical session on getting your business's data right from the start.
What will you learn?
Introducing the data passport: a simple way to let data carry its own papers, so whoever receives it can understand, interpret, check, judge, trust and use it. He also shows where the Data Guardian comes in, the software that reads the passport where data lands.
During this session, Ronald will explore:
- Lower costs: How good data practices can help you avoid expensive mistakes and unnecessary work later.
- Higher revenue: How treating data as a business asset can support growth.
- Faster compliance and certification: Why getting the foundations right early can save you trouble as your company scales.
- Customer and investor trust: How responsible data management can make your business more credible.
- Practical steps for founders: What you can start doing today, without needing to become a data expert.
Then you get to work. In small groups you’ll find out what it costs to work without papers, and you’ll write a first passport for a dataset you know. No perfection needed. Version 0.1 is a great start.
Expect an accessible, jargon-free session with practical advice for founders and teams who would rather spend their time building great products than fixing data problems.
